London Lament: Is Your Love Strong Enough?

Yes, yes it is, actually.

My love for this man has really been with me most of my adult life.

But it wasn’t enough to get me to Londontown in time.

I had tickets for this show last night – one of the last stops on the Olympia tour – which has eluded me for one reason or another,  in one city or another, this entire year.

This is a man you get dressed to go and see. I had my outfit all picked out, too. It involved leather and my highest stilettos.

Alas, it just wasn’t meant to be.

A love that will last longer than just last night...

Another time, Mr. Ferry. Another time.

Incidentally, have you heard the Reznor re-do of the song that Bryan originally sang, yet?

Bryan’s version was initially featured on the Legend soundtrack in 1985.

Trent Reznor worked his magic on it for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo soundtrack, giving it his trademark dark layers and soul-wrenching singing, without insulting the original – a feat so rare in covers, these days.

Ferry, too, always honours the original artists in his covers. Have a listen to any of his takes on a Dylan tune and you’ll hear what I mean.

More Bryan Ferry.
